AMS Institute
Tradable Mobility Credits
What is AMS Institute?
AMS Institute is dedicated to generating ideas, fostering talent, and building collaborations to address the challenges faced by modern cities. By closely interacting with urban environments, the institute aims to analyze, design, and engineer solutions that make cities more sustainable, prosperous, resilient, and just. This process, termed "re-inventing cities," involves creating sustainable metropolitan solutions through the cross-fertilization of ideas in research, innovation, and education. The institute also fosters an innovative environment that bridges knowledge institutes with private and public organizations, uniquely positioning itself to connect science with societal challenges and collaboratively develop solutions.. More information about their vision and expertise can be found on the website.
How do we contribute?
The project explores the feasibility and implications of implementing a Tradable Mobility Credit (TMC) scheme in Amsterdam, aimed at addressing urban mobility challenges and achieving sustainability goals. It examines key factors such as the capping and pricing of credits for different transport modes and the equal allocation of these credits. The project highlights the potential of TMC schemes to encourage sustainable mobility choices and reduce emissions and congestion. However, it also addresses concerns regarding privacy, social justice, and the need for further research to fill knowledge gaps and ensure the scheme's effectiveness and societal acceptance. Emphasizing the importance of both technical and social considerations, the project aims to design comprehensive mobility solutions for cities like Amsterdam.
